Tutor’s Name: Peggy Fillinger

Tutor’s Email Address or phone number: fillinger@bellsouth.net; 753-1621

Grade Level: 10th-12th grades

Class Description:  This 28 week course will use the Abeka Economics book to cover
basic economic laws, the factors of production, supply and demand, and the superiority of
the free market economy model over the command economy model.  We will also look at
the business cycle and how inflation is tied to it, the Federal Reserve system and how it
monitors our money supply, and the increasing trend toward a one-world economy.

The personal finance portion of the class will have the students choosing an occupation that
interests them.  The salary they receive will be tied to their chosen occupation, and they will
“buy” a house and automobile based on their salaries.  They will keep a budget, balance
their checking account, understand the dangers of debt by experiencing an “unexpected”
large expense, and learn about the stock market.  They will pick a stock to track and graph
its performance throughout the second semester.
